ST. PHILIP’S COLLEGE RELEASES UPDATES FOR ITS 2018 120TH ANNIVERSARY HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH EVENT LINEUP

Live stream event with Beto O’Rourke, National Night Out are among the new events

Today, St. Philip’s College released updates for its remaining 2018 120th Anniversary Hispanic Heritage Month lineup of free programs at two of the college’s campuses in September and October.

With additional details to be announced in coming days, the highlights of the two-month observance are the 11th Anniversary edition of the college’s Best Tasting Salsa College Scholarship Competition (Oct. 4), new-for-2018 Weekly Voter Awareness activities at its 1801 Martin Luther King Drive and 800 Quintana Road locations, a stream of the Prairie View A&M University Town Hall featuring The Honorable Beto O'Rourke (Sept. 19) and a National Night Out 2018 event co-sponsored by the Alamo Colleges Police Department and the Denver Heights Neighborhood Association (Oct. 2). All events are open to the public, and all are free for 2018, said college observance organizer Nina McGrath. 

In the nation’s largest Hispanic-majority city, at the nation’s only college designated as both a Historically Black College and a Hispanic Serving Institution, the month as observed at the college is traditionally a mix of activities independently underway and activities identified or created by a college committee.
