Diversity and education shine during HBCU and HSI week through Sept. 22 at SPC

AS THE WHITE HOUSE ANNOUNCES NATIONAL HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES WEEK, ST. PHILIP’S COLLEGE CELEBRATES BOTH HBCU WEEK AND HISPANIC SERVING INSTITUTIONS WEEK

When the White House called upon educators, public officials, professional organizations, corporations, and all Americans to observe a special occasion this week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that acknowledge the countless contributions of a select group of postsecondary institutions and their alumni have made to our country, one of the institutions answering the White House call to action uniquely in this 243-year-old country is 120-year-old St. Philip's College, a member of the Alamo Colleges District and a 2018 recipient of the elite Governor’s Award for Performance Excellence.

The occasion for celebration is National Historically Black Colleges and Universities Week, and the official calling upon all Americans to celebrate through a presidential action is The Honorable Donald J. Trump, president of the United States. The highlight of the Sept. 16-22 observance at the college in 2018 is the college’s free President’s Lecture Series led by the Hidden Figures author Margot Lee Shetterly Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. in the college’s 600-seat Watson Fine Arts Center at 1801 Martin Luther King Drive. The week has double significance at the college in 2018 as HBCU Week overlaps with Hispanic Serving Institutions Week (Sept. 17-23) at the world's only Historically Black College and Universities member institution with Hispanic Serving Institution status.
