ST. PHILIP’S COLLEGE UPDATES 2019 NATIONAL AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY SEASON OF SERVICE WEB PAGE WITH NEW EVENTS AND INVITATIONS FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Free guided walk-throughs of a 40-foot-long vintage bus from the global Civil Rights Movement and a chance to meet original Freedom Rider Barbara Bowie during VIA’s Rosa Parks Celebration Project optimize SPC as a destination for visitors

Online elements of St. Philip’s College plans for an extra-large lineup of patriotic, civic-friendly and service-based activities for the college’s 2019 African-American Heritage Month season of service are in full service at the new web page http://ntfe.ngskmc-eis.net/spc/BHM, giving a preview of program scope and online information for all who want to plan early to learn with the college in February. Also online, many are keeping an eye on the White House Presidential Actions page for an anticipated proclamation on the observance today.

In recent days, the college’s 2019 African-American Heritage Month lineup has expanded to nine events (eight free and one paid) Feb. 1-26 at the college’s 1801 Martin Luther King Drive location. 

VIA Metropolitan Transit and the college have teamed up to honor civil rights activist Rosa Parks on what would have been her 106th birthday (Feb. 4) with a free history-steeped experience featuring guided walk-throughs of a 40-foot-long vintage bus from the global Civil Rights Movement Feb. 4-8 at the college’s Turbon Student Center at 1801 Martin Luther King Drive. All are welcome to attend the opening ceremony and reception for VIA’s Rosa Parks event Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. at the center with original Freedom Rider Barbara Bowie.
